AI, used with care
Fast answers. Careful decisions.
AI tools now write, summarise, translate and code in seconds. That changes a great deal, and it leaves one thing as it was: someone still has to know what to ask, check what comes back and answer for what is done with it.
The moment
What has changed, and what has not.
Changed
- A first draft, a summary or a block of code is now cheap.
- These tools arrive inside everyday software, whether or not anyone decided they should.
- Learners and staff are already using them.
Not changed
- A fluent answer can still be wrong.
- Skill still comes from practice.
- Responsibility still belongs to a person.
How PearlHelix can help
Decide, check, build, practise.
Four kinds of help, each available on its own. Every one starts with your task, not with a tool.
Decide
AI advisory
Which tasks would benefit, which would not, and what a sensible trial looks like.
Check
Evaluation
Test a tool or a model on your own material, with a fair comparison and the limits stated.
Build
AI features in software
An assistant, document search or an automated step inside a tool you already use, with human review where it matters.
Practise
Training and workshops
Habits for using AI well: asking, checking and keeping room for independent practice.
Before you adopt a tool
Eight questions worth asking.
They cost nothing to ask, and the answers usually decide whether a tool is worth a trial. Use them with or without PearlHelix.
- What task is it for, and how is that task done today?
- What happens when it is wrong, and who would notice?
- Has it been tried on your own material, not only the supplier’s examples?
- What data does it see, where does that data go and who can reach it?
- Who reviews its output before anyone acts on it?
- What will people stop practising if it does this for them?
- What does it cost to run, month by month, at the scale you need?
- How would you stop using it, if you had to?
Working principles
Using AI with care.
- Keep practising
- Make room to recall, solve and explain things yourself. Our learning advisory work can help you plan where AI supports practice and where independent work matters.
- Check before relying
- Question an answer, check its sources and try it in context. Agree what needs human review, with teachers, trainers and managers keeping responsibility for decisions.
- Only the data a project needs
- Collected with consent, kept with clear access rules, and used for nothing else.
What PearlHelix will not claim
No tool is recommended by default. No result is promised before a trial. Sometimes the right answer is not to use AI, and we will say so.
Let’s start with a conversation
What are you trying to improve?
Ask about a service, discuss an early idea or tell us what you want to improve. We can explain the options and agree whether a conversation, a review or a scoped project is the right next step.
